A large aircraft bomb was found in Tartu on Thursday, prompting authorities to evacuate the area.

As the bomb did not have a detonator, bomb disposal experts decided to transport it to a detonation area, rather than blowing up the bomb where it was found.

The 1,500 kilogram, 1.3-meter bomb was found during laying of optical fiber cables on the corner of Jänese and Roosi streets, an area near the abandoned Raadi military airfield in north Tartu.

After a controlled detonation, experts said there was no explosives in the shell and it was probably a training bomb.
