Nations have the responsibility to ensure security online as well as offline, Slovakian President Andrej Kiska said, while visiting the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence (CCD COE) in the Estonian capital.

“Digital world is a great opportunity for small countries such as Slovakia and Estonia. But only if we make sure that lives of our people are equally safe both online and offline,” Kiska said.

Sven Sakkov, Director if the NATO CCD COE, pointed out that Slovakia was one of the founding nations of the center in 2008: “This is characteristic of their national commitment to cyber defense.”

Sakkov highlighted that Slovak experts have over the years been an invaluable asset to the Tallinn-based center and their contribution highly appreciated by colleagues as well as the alliance and its nations.

The Tallinn-based NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence is a NATO-accredited knowledge hub, think-tank and training facility. The international military organization focuses on interdisciplinary applied research and development, as well as consultations, trainings and exercises in the field of cyber security. The center’s mission is to enhance capability, cooperation and information-sharing between NATO, its allies and partners in cyber defense.

Andrej Kiska was on a two-day working visit in Estonia, where he also met with Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and participated in start-up seminar at the Tehnopol science park, which focused on how the two small countries could bring their products and services to global markets.

Speaking about Estonian-Slovakian relations, President Ilves used the expression 'clear sky' and highlighted the IT co-operation between the two countries, expressing joy that President Kiska was accompanied by more that 20 digital and technology companies.
