GALLERY: Defense Forces' biggest ever logistics operation begins
Estonian Defense Forces have began its largest ever logistics operation in anticipation of the NATO Trident Juncture exercise in Spain.
Lieutenant Toomas Pärnpuu, who is in charge of the logistical side of Estonia's participation in the exercise, said a charter boat and six flights have been ordered to send all vehicles and other equipment to Spain, and a similar operation is planned for the return trip.
The ship will take 250 machines and over 70 containers of equipment and provisions, including equipment from other Baltic nations. Estonia's part consists of 150 machines, including 37 armored personnel carriers, and 40 containers, which have been packed on the ship in Paldiski.
The 500 Estonian soldiers and other staff members will fly from Ämari to Zaragoza in Spain on chartered flights.
Trident Juncture will take place in Spain, Portugal and Italy from October 21 to November 6, with over 35,000 participants.
Besides nearly all NATO members, soldiers from Australia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, Sweden, Finland and Ukraine, as well as members from international organizations such as the EU, the African Union, OSCE and the Red Cross, are taking part.
