Chief of NATO Corps Northeast acknowledges preparations of command element in Estonia
The commander of NATO's Multinational Corps Northeast, Lieutenant General Manfred Hofmann, visited a NATO command element in Estonia yesterday.
The command element in question is a headquarters unit that manages and plans matters of manpower, intelligence, operations, training, and logistics.
Hofmann praised the preparation of the command element. “I was impressed with the quality of work carried out in all areas. I'm convinced that all will go according to plan and we're well prepared for the certification process that will take place soon,” Hofmann said. “I saw the strong team of the command element, which is committed to fulfilling the task set at the Wales summit under the leadership of the Multinational Corps Northeast,” he added.
Hofmann discussed issues regarding the command element’s launch with the commander of the Estonian Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Riho Terras, and Estonian Chief of Staff Commodore Igor Schvede.
Founded in 1999 by Denmark, Germany and Poland, Multinational Corps Northeast is the NATO unit closest to Estonia. The Estonian Defense Forces have sent officers to the corps since 2002.
