Reform Party presidential candidate Siim Kallas, who is seeking support from the five other parliamentary parties, is slated to meet with Center Party chairman Edgar Savisaar, Center deputy chairman Jaanus Karilaid told ERR's radio news.

Karilaid stated that Kallas will have to very clearly define what he has to offer the Center Party and its voters.

"At some stage, the Center Party may reach a political agreement on Allar Jõks as well," added Karilaid. "We are planning a more comprehensive meeting with Jõks."

By the deputy chairman's assessment, Jõks would be the biggest competition in the electoral college for their own party's confirmed candidate, MP Mailis Reps.

After the possible failed elections in the Riigikogu, the Center Party plans to call together all electoral college representatives belonging to the party, said Karilaid.

Support in numbers

In order to officially be nominated before the electoral committe as a presidential candidate, an individual needs the signatures of at least 21 MPs out of the total of 101. Center Party candidate MP Mailis Reps already had the signatures of all 27 members of the Center Party Parliamentary Group in July.

The Reform Party has 30 seats in the Riigikogu, and all 30 MPs have promised to give their votes to Siim Kallas.

Whether or not the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL) candidate Allar Jõks will qualify to be nominated as a candidate will depend on what the Free Party decides on Friday night. IRL has 14 seats in the Riigikogu, which alone fall short of the minimum requirement of 21, however the Free Party, which has been consdering supporting Jõks' candidacy, could add up to eight votes to his name.

The Estonian presidential elections are scheduled to take place in the Riigikogu on August 29. All candidates must be submitted to the electoral committee for confirmation no later than August 27.
