Two Syrian families arrive in Estonia
Two Syrian families accepted through the European refugee relocation program arrived in Estonia on Thursday.
The families were met by their assigned support persons, together with whom they immediately continued on to their new homes in Tallinn and Pärnu.
One family consists of a man and his pregnant wife. The husband has worked as a driver and cook, while the woman has studied to become a gym teacher.
The other family likewise consists of a man and his pregnant wife, who worked as a tailor and studied geography, respectively.
Thorough background checks and interviews have been conducted with all refugees to be relocated to Estonia. In Greece, interviews are conducted by expert officials from the Police and Border Guard Board (PPA), the Internal Security Service (KaPo) and the Ministry of Social Affairs.
During the interview, Estonia, the rights and obligations of persons under international protection in Estonia as well as the country's local customs are introduced to the candidates for relocation.
As of July 21, the EU has relocated a total of 3,362 war refugees to various member states, of which 2,485 came from Greece and 877 from Italy. As of July 13, following the EU-Turkey refugee relocation deal, a total of 802 refugees have been relocated from Turkey to various EU member states.
To date, Estonia has relocated 31 war refugees from Greece.
