The seventh Estonia’s Friends International Meeting, set to begin on Thursday, will bring more than 100 entrepreneurs, politicians, scientists, journalists and opinion leaders from 24 countries to Tallinn, the president's office announced.

The meeting is hosted by President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Enterprise Estonia.

The meeting will open with a seminar to discuss the country's future visions. A presentation on European security and Estonia's options in it by the director of the International Center for Defense and Security, Jüri Luik, will follow.

The key event of the meeting is the symposium “Quo vadis, Estonia?”. It will take place on Friday. The main theme this year is digital development, with president Ilves and co-founder of start-up Teleport Sten Tamkivi as speakers, and IT analyst Linnar Viik as moderator.

Participants will also meet with Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas (Reform).

This year’s guests include visitors from the United States, India, China, Australia, Russia, Canada, and numerous European countries.

The idea for this international meeting of friends of Estonia goes back to 2010. The event is organized to thank and recognize business, political and cultural individuals “whose actions and advice have helped Estonia become a European country with a dynamic economy and thriving culture and who may have a key role in bringing foreign investment to Estonia”.
