Tallinn’s summer ambulance bike patrols began work in the Estonian capital on Wednesday, where they will be on duty through August 31.

According to Tallinn Emergency Medical Service (TEMS) Operative Manager Monika Ild, they have put out bike patrols during the summer season for the past few years.

The city’s ambulance bikes are on duty from June 1 through August 31. Each patrol includes two medics together with the necessary first-response supplies.

Bike patrols don’t respond to emergency calls alone, however; ambulance crews follow as well. “Cyclists are simply able to reach those in need in the narrow and crowded summer streets more quickly,” explained Ild. “As reality has shown, bike patrols are really the only option in Tallinn's Old Town in summer.”

Tallinn’s ambulance bike patrols are on duty in the medieval Old Town and city center, as well as at bigger summer events.
