Minister of Foreign Affairs Marina Kaljurand to meet with US Secretary of State John Kerry
Estonian Minister of Foreign Affairs Marina Kaljurand, currently on an official visit to the United States, will be meeting with the US Secretary of State John Kerry in Washington today.
The two nations’ secretaries of foreign affairs will be meeting to discuss bilateral relations between Estonia and the United States, NATO’s upcoming two-day Warsaw Summit (to be held in Warsaw, Poland in July), the situation in Ukraine, the regional security situation, as well as the conflict in Syria, reported ERR’s television news.
The Estonian minister's last visit to Washington was in December of last year, where she met with US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kaljurand had stated at that meeting that, “In light of the NATO Warsaw summit, we need to move from security measures in the direction of real deterrence and to ensure the unity of the Alliance regarding the issue of increasing Allied troops in the region.”
Kaljurand and Kerry are scheduled to meet at the Department of State at 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (9 p.m. Eastern European Time) today.
