Head of Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Marko Mihkelson, said that the border treaty with Russia, and the fact that it will signed in Moscow, should not be over-mythologized.

“The place of the signing was agreed on by the foreign minister,” Miheklson told uudised.err.ee on Monday, adding that the Russian minister, Sergei Lavrov, has promised to visit Estonia this year.

The developments, which will lead to the signing of the treaty on February 18 in Moscow, have been criticized by right-wing politicians, including Mart Helme, the head of the Conservative People's Party, and Andres Herkel, who is currently setting up a new political party. Both have said that the new traty weakens the legal continuity of the Treaty of Tartu.

Mihkelson said the border treaty will allow Estonia to upgrade border infrastructure.
