Center Party Finally Names Mayor of Narva
After nearly two months of searching for a suitable candidate for the next mayor of Narva, the Center Party, which won an outright majority in the city, has named Eduard East as the man for the job.
The head of the party's Narva district Andrus Tamm told rus.err.ee that East received unanimous support from delegates at a meeting on Tuesday.
East, who is the director of a local bus company, is not yet a Center Party member, but did run on the party's list, receiving 164 votes, and is expected to join the party.
The Center Party, which holds 20 seats on the 31-seat council in Narva, had difficulties finding a suitable candidate as many party heavyweights lacked the required language qualifications.
East is expected to be officially named mayor on Thursday.
The stalemate after the October 20 local elections had led Social Democrat MP Jevgeni Ossinovski, who won 2,403 votes in Narva, to put himself forward for the position.
