Crime Rate Down So Far This Year

There has been a slight drop in reported crimes in Estonia, the Ministry of Justice said today.

Between January and July, there had been 22,522 crimes, which is 2 percent less than the same period last year, the ministry reported.

Traffic crimes dropped 9 percent, physical abuse dropped 4 percent, and robberies declined 3 percent. Theft has remained at last year's pace, while fraud cases have grown by 2 percent.

The number of violent crimes fell by 6 percent. Murders and manslaughter dropped by 4 percent. There were 33 cases in the six month period; 26 cases of manslaughter and seven murders.

The crime increased in 75 categories, dropped in 101, and remained unchanged for 224.
