Anne Sulling, named the foreign trade and entrepreneurship minister in Taavi Rõivas's cabinet, said the offer to join the new government came as a surprise to her.

“Although I had no plans to go into politics, the field is of great interest to me. This opportunity is a chance to continue what I have been working on for the past few years,” Sulling said, adding that her tasks will be to attract foreign investments to the country, while increasing exports.

She said the downsides are the media limelight and criticism.

Sulling, 37, is currently an adviser to PM Andrus Ansip, has previously worked for the Ministry of Finance on bringing the euro to Estonia. She later worked for the Environmental Investment Center, dealing with CO2 quota sales for which she was named the “Person of the Year” by daily Postimees in 2011.

Sulling has applied to join the Reform Party.
