Sulling Tabbed for Foreign Minister Post
Estonia's foreign minister´s duties will be temporarily filled by Anne Sulling, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Entrepreneurship, after Urmas Paet decided to step down from his position and take the open Estonian seat in the European Parliament today.
Two Reform Party politicians were elected to the European Parliament in spring - Andrus Ansip and Kaja Kallas.
Ansip recently became the European Commission vice president for the digital single market, vacating his seat in the European Parliament. Urmas Paet, one of the longest-serving Reform Party politicians in the cabinet, was next in line to take Ansip's seat in the parliament.
The Estonian weekly newspaper Eesti Ekspress had previously reported that the current Minister of Environment, Keit Pentus-Rosimannus, was the most obvious choice to be named foreign minister after Paet.
