People should not overdramatize possible military intervention in Syria, as the events in Egypt are more important, said the deputy director of the Estonian School of Diplomacy, Vahur Made.

“The probability of such a [military] action is increased by the fact that the US and the EU's leading military powers – France and the United Kingdom – share common ground on the Syrian question. The recent and fairly successful military operations in Libya and Mali have given the Europeans confidence in their military capabilities,” Made told uudised.err.ee today.

Made said he does not believe the opposition of Russia and China to a military solution would be the main obstacle. And the events in Egypt could be an ulterior consideration for the West.

“If any Western-led military operation in Syria is successful, it will send a message to both sides in Egypt that if the conflict deepens and no internal solution is found, NATO may decide on military intervention in Egypt,” Made said.
