Independence War Soldiers Reinterred in Latvia
The Estonian Defense Forces on Sunday reburied the remains of three unidentified Estonian soldiers in Latvia who were killed in the Estonian War of Independence.
The soldiers died in the Alūksne battle in the spring of 1919 and were buried on a field in Latvia, ERR radio reported. They have now been reburied at Latvia's Mazsalaca cemetery, 15 kilometers south of the Estonian border.
A military spokesman said the graves had been largely forgotten and were in the way of private landowners.
On June 18, a monument will be erected in honor of the Estonian soldiers who died in Latvia.
Another 10 soldiers' remains may be reburied.
