Social Dems to Gain Several Strategic Minister Posts, Daily Names Names
Most of the Reform Party ministers in the current government will keep their posts, but the Social Democrats will pick up a few strategic portfolios from departing IRL, according to analysts at a daily newspaper.
Eesti Päevaleht reported on coalition talks over the weekend, saying Taavi Rõivas's government is on a fast track to be sworn in this week.
Reasons include the fact that the two parties have agreed on a majority of issues in the program and the approaching elections of the new speaker of Parliament on March 20.
The parties are keeping their cards close to their chest on ministerial portfolios, but of the Social Democrats, Sven Mikser will likely wind up with Defense; Andres Anvelt, a former police official, with Interior; and Jevgeni Ossinovski with the Education Ministry. Ivari Padar is considered a shoo-in for Agriculture. Urve Palo, would join Reform's Urve Tiidus as one of two women in the Cabinet; she would take Taavi Rõivas's vacated Social Affairs Ministry.
The Finance Ministry is considered open, but the Reform Party's Jürgen Ligi would either hold on to it or move to head the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
