Interior Minister Hanno Pevkur said money for salary increases of police and border guard employees is already in the 2016 budget.

Only four areas will receive a boost to salaries from the budget, with internal security one of the four, Pevkur said.

“How much will salaries in one or another post increase is up to the Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) heads to decide and the leadership has the right to divert funds to where there are the fewest,” he said.

Speaking about the ministry's budget for 2016, Pevkur said focus is on border security. He said 20 million has been earmarked for building up borders. The sum does not include vehicles, boats, drones, radars and more, which will be purchased with outside aid.
