Savisaar on Thin Ice Over Olympics Expenses (1)
Martin Kukk, member of the Reform Party faction at the Tallinn City Council, said that Mayor Edgar Savisaar should pay back the expenses of visiting the Olympic Games in Sochi and return the parka he received as present from Russian Railways President Vladimir Yakunin.
“If the mayor refuses, we will suggest to IRL and the Social Democrats to launch a vote of non-confidence,” Kukk said in a press release today.
He added that council members find it difficult to trust a man who would swap the parka of the Estonian national team for a parka of the Russian Railways and uses the money of Tallinn's taxpayers to have “private meetings” in the Russian Federation.
According to Äripäev, the mayor's travel expenses were covered by Tallinn and his expenses in Sochi were paid for by the Russian Railways, the major sponsor of the Sochi games. Prior to the trip, Savisaar told the website Delfi that he had many private meetings on his agenda and would attempt to attend the sports events.
