President Toomas Hendrik Ilves tweeted a response to a Russian court's ruling today which sent opposition leader Alexei Navalny to prison for five years.

"I'm indignant. Today's court ruling again leaves the impression of politically motivated trials in Russia," Ilves said in the Estonian-language tweet.

The Estonian Foreign Ministry's press representative, Mariann Sudakov, told uudised.err.ee that Estonia condemns today's decision. The EU and US have also condemned the ruling.

"It appears from today's court procedure, which seems politically motivated, that the principles of the rule of law are observed selectively in Russia," Sudakov said.
