Kanal 2 presenter Tanel Talve, who collected more than 10,000 votes (3 percent of all votes) as an independent candidate at last week's European Parliament election, said he could run for the national parliament and is in talks with a number of political parties.

Around 20 percent of all votes were cast for independent candidates, with Indrek Tarand (43,000) the most successful, followed by Talve and Silver Meikar (6,000 votes), ETV reported on Wednesday.

Talve said he will not become a vote-magnet for any party, and would only go into politics to realize his ideas. He did not reveal which parties he is negotiating with.

Meikar said he is very happy with his votes, and promised to continue to speak out on Ukraine, Internet freedom, human rights and political movements. He said he will not run as an independent at next year's parliamentary elections.

Tarand, who collected less than half of the votes he attracted five years ago, said he will not endorse Andrus Ansip as the nation's EU Commissioner, adding that Ansip is a great manager but in times of crisis, more creativity and inspiration are needed.
