The IRL candidate running for mayor in Tallinn, Eerik-Niiles Kross, has been penalized for 11 traffic infractions over the last three years, according to traffic records.

The biggest fine was 2,800 euros and his driver's license has been revoked twice in the three-year period, reported Eesti Päevaleht. His violations have mainly been breaking the speed limit, and he was most recently fined in May. The public records do not go back further than three years.

Responding to the matter, Kross said he often spends long periods of time abroad and when he comes home he forgets the 90 kph speed limit on the Tartu highway.

IRL Secretary General Tiit Riisalo said the numerous violations should be condemned but that at least Kross has honestly admitted to his mistakes.

"Eerik's strength on the one hand and weakness on the other is that he does everything very passionately. I guess this has sometimes been reflected in his driving habits, which of course should be condemned," Riisalo told uudised.err.ee. "A mayoral candidate's most important characteristic in my opinion is honesty."

However, some might contest that honesty, in this case, as Eesti Päevaleht reported that Kross had claimed in 2012 to have driven at 90 kph in a 70 kph zone, while police records indicate that he was actually driving at 128 kph in a 90 kph zone.
