Estonian Minister of Defense Sven Mikser and his Danish counterpart Nicolai Wammen signed a bilateral defense cooperation agreement in Brussels today.

"Denmark has helped Estonia built up its defense systems over the past two decades and the signed agreement is a major step towards even closer cooperation," Mikser said.

Estonia and Denmark have cooperated in foreign mission in the Balkans and Afghanistan. Denmark was also the first NATO member to send its fighter jets to Estonia in spring 2014 as part of the Baltic air policing mission.

The newly-signed agreement foresees close cooperation over the next five years in seven fields: military exercises, military operations, defense education, defense aid, veteran support programs, cyber defense, and home guard.

The previous defense cooperation agreement between Estonia and Denmark was signed in 1994.
