Savisaar: IRL 'Punished' Kallas
Edgar Savisaar, leader of the largest opposition party, said he was not surprised by Siim Kallas's decision to withdraw from coalition forming talks as putative prime minister.
Savisaar, who shares the view that the Reform Party had decided to abandon its current coalition partner IRL, told Postimees that Kallas "did not understand" that he would not be allowed to form a government without IRL.
"Yesterday, when our MPs were in Kadriorg, President Ilves asked why we thought Kallas would be nominated as prime minister. It was an interesting observation coming from the president, who himself nominates the candidate, and that raised questions for us," Savisaar said. "Why did things go like it did with Kallas? I'd say Kallas took a risk [...] by turning his back on IRL."
Savisaar suggested that criticism of Kallas over the VEB affair and of Reform Party magnate Neinar Seli over the Port of Tallinn were two areas in which IRL had a hand.
