Rõivas: Greece's decision irresponsible (1)
Estonian PM Taavi Rõivas said the Greek government's decision to reject a compromise proposal by international creditors is irresponsible and it is the Greek people who will suffer first.
Rõivas said all EU and Eurozone members were waiting for the country to realize the gravity and the urgency of the situation, and the need for reform, adding that with all that in mind, the Saturday's decision was disappointing.
Greece had already made progress, under previous governments, Rõivas said, adding that reforms were pushed through, certain results were achieved which allowed for optimism.
“EU institutions and Eurozone members have shown notable understanding, support and solidarity with Greece's government and people in recent years,” Rõivas said.
Rõivas said the country still has the opportunity to reach a deal, adding that the idea of a referendum came out of the blue and EU heads were not consulted first.
He said he hopes Greece will make the responsible decision as it will have a long-term impact on Greece and also to Europe.
