Aleksandr Petrov, the new Russian ambassador to Estonia, presented his credentials to President Toomas Hendrik Ilves on Thursday.

“We have much to do. That means expanding the number of treaties, effort to restore trade and increasing ties in various fields,” Petrov told ETV.

The previous ambassador, Yuri Merzlyakov, left office at the end of August.

Petrov, born in 1953, graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1977, and has worked in the foreign affairs service ever since. He has previously held posts in Germany as the head consul in Bonn and an adviser to the Russian embassy in Germany.
