Media Speculates IRL Could Swap Out Leader
According to Delfi, IRL is wrapped in a debate about party leadership, as some fractions doubt current chairman Urmas Reinsalu should lead the party at next year's parliamentary elections.
IRL has suffered in the months after the local elections, Delfi reports today, falling to fourth in the popularity ranking and being ousted from government, and a new and powerful campaign is needed for next year.
Former minister Jaak Aaviksoo said debates are focusing on the election program, adding that Reinsalu has given a more transparent face to the party, compared to Mart Laar, but there are others who would also be up to the job, for example former PM Juhan Parts.
Helir-Valdor Seeder and Liisa Pakosta, both IRL MPs, said the party already has a chairman, who was only reelected in February, with no other candidates.
Reinsalu, 39, succeeded Laar in 2012.
