Reform Party Grows to Second in Size
In 2011, the governing coalition’s Reform Party increased its membership by 1,700 to 10,500, climbing it from its previously-held fourth place to second in size.
Since 2009, a total of 3,700 people have joined the Reform Party - a figure equal to the combined three-year growth of IRL, the Centre Party and the Social Democrats.
Nevertheless, the Centre Party with its membership of 12,580 still holds the position of the largest party, while IRL has remained steadily third. The People’s Union, with 8,300 members, dropped from second to fourth in size in 2011, Postimees reported.
The Social Dems - the second most popular party in Estonia according to polls - increased its membership by 1,000 in 2011 but still only placed fifth in size with around 4,600 members.
Political parties in Estonia have a combined total membership of 56,200, according to the Business Registry.
