PPA introduces new security data system on eastern border
The Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) is now using a new, advanced information system that searches more databases.
Viljar Kärk from the PPA said that the new system submits queries to Estonian and international databases in real time, making security checks easier and quicker.
The new system was developed in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior. It was partially funded by the EU External Borders Fund.
The new information system will increase internal security, said ministry representative Virgo Riisap, as it allows to simultaneously search three times more databases compared to the old system.
PPA said temporary queues may form on the eastern border as the system is introduced.
