Kannel: Russia unlikely to change any time soon
ERR's Astrid Kannel said the murder of opposition leader Boris Nemtsov in Moscow is unlikely to bring about changes in Russia in the foreseeable future.
“Russia has seen this type of murders before. Many people have been shot and at funerals people have said that this is the end, that there are no more honest Russians left. People have been shocked repeatedly. But in essence, the Russian opposition has been a nearly non-existent force, fighting among itself for the past 15 years,” she said.
“We might think it will fall off the edge, but Russia and its people have their own logic and psychology, and they can survive wherever they land. There is nothing to suggest that anything will change in the near future,” said Kannel.
