Ansip Hints at Early Exit
Prime Minister Andrus Ansip said that if he steps down now, he will join Parliament and Siim Kallas’ seat in the European Commission could remain vacant until the autumn.
Ansip told ERR radio today that he said already two years ago that he would not be running again and he has remained the head of government for an unusually long period.
He said the sooner his Reform Party elects a new chairman and a new Prime Minister, the better, however he would not come up with a timeline.
“Yes, Siim Kallas is a good candidate [for Prime Minister], but he’s not the only one,” Ansip said, adding that the party’s candidate also needs the approval of the Parliament and the President.
Ansip said that if he hands in his resignation, he will become a MP according to law.
