Maryland National Guard Visits Defense League
Maryland National Guard Adjutant General Maj. Gen. James A. Adkins is visiting Estonia from May 9 to 12, to observe the military exercise Spring Storm and meet with Commander-in-Chief of the Defense League Lt. Col. Raivo Lumiste.
Adkins is accompanied by Sgt. Maj. Brian S. Sann, who will be introduced to the nation's training system for non-commissioned officers. Sann will visit the Defense League School, Battle School of the Defense Forces and an infantry battalion.
Cooperation between the Maryland National Guard and the Estonian defense forces started after Estonia had re-established its independence and its national defense in 1991.
Since then, the Maryland National Guard has organized training courses for Estonian Defense League personnel and contributed to the strenghtening of the country's voluntary reserve.
