Pevkur: Criminals and Russia the big winners from the migrant crisis (2)
Estonian Interior Minister Hanno Pevkur said that human traffickers and Russia are the parties which benefit the most from the migration crisis currently hitting Europe.
Speaking on ETV, Pevkur said that as long as the EU is dealing with its own problems, with the migrant crisis, with member states arguing amongst themselves, then no one is talking about Ukraine anymore.
“I have a feeling that there are two large beneficiaries of the crisis: the criminals who smuggle people and earn illegal money, and the second one is, I sadly have to say, Russia,” he said.
Europe's focus is on internal matters, not on Ukraine, he said. “Russia can only view this as a positive development that Europe is dealing with its own problems,” he added.
Speaking about Estonia's border modernization plan, Pevkur said that planning stage for the new border will take into account possible migrant waves, as well as undesirable people.
