Although observers' main focus is currently on local elections, the monthly TNS Emor poll, as always, also gauged support for parties among likely general election voters.

Analysts said support for the Center Party has plateaued at just under 30 percent, and the Social Democrats, who had been tied for first earlier this year, are suddenly having trouble holding on to third place.

Center led the parties with an average 29 percent support in October - the same figure as in September. The poll is conducted in two survey rounds. In the first, Center had 34 percent, before the party's financing scandal eroded its support, analysts said. The Reform Party came second with 22 percent, also more or less the same as in previous months. They were followed by the Social Democrats and IRL, each with 20 percent.

In particular, IRL posted big gains, reaching its highest level of support since February 2011. Thanks to that, the ruling parties (IRL and Reform) have managed to close the gap between them and the opposition, which earlier this year had swelled to 16-17 percentage points. Currently the two ruling parties have 42 percent and the opposition, 49 percent.

The Conservative People's Party is fifth, its 4 percent putting it under the 5-percent threshold needed to get into Parliament.
