The head of the Foundation for the Protection of Family and Tradition, Varro Vooglaid, said after the controversial Cohabitation Act was narrowly passed by Parliament today that the names of the 40 MPs who voted for the bill should remain in the memories at election time next year.

“Everyone has to make their own choices and accept the consequences,” Vooglaid told uudised.err.ee.

He said his foundation's aim now is to make sure the MPs are held accountable.”We will try to reach a situation for the first time in Estonia that people really bear political responsibility at elections.”

Vooglaid said there are Parliament members who think they can disrespect the will of the public and the nation's cultural values, and brand people haters at will. He said Estonian voters must know the names of the MPs.

The Cohabitation Act, which allows couples regardless of sexual orientation, to register for greater legal rights, was passed by two votes today, with 40 MPs voting for and 38 against.
