Social Democrat MP Indrek Saar said that the European Parliament Elections in May will be taken more seriously in Estonia than they were four years ago, as the union is currently in the process of setting its goals for the future.

“They are very serious elections and at least the Social Democrats will not take them lightly, and we have been preparing for them for a while now,” Saar said, speaking on ETV on Wednesday.

IRL's Margus Tsahkna said that the European People's Party, which has the highest number of seats, including the IRL MEPs, could lose out to the Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. Meanwhile the Parliament's third party, the Alliance of Liberals, with whom three out of six Estonian MEPs have aligned themselves, could become even more marginalized, decreasing the importance of Estonian representatives, he said.

The Reform Party's Kristen Michal said that the elections should focus more on political issues, as the next EP elections will take place in the first half of 2018, when the EU's Presidency has rotated to Estonia.
