The Cabinet today decided to delay until 2018 the implementation of a parental pension that would give one parent an additional contribution to the second pillar pension fund.

The bill was one of the most talked-about promises of the previous coalition.

According to the initial bill, for children born in 2013 and later, the state would make a 4 percent contribution to the pension fund of one parent until the child turns three, which would work out to about 1,100 euros per child on average.

Parents with children born earlier were due for a smaller, fixed sum.
