Tax Board to Restructure and Downsize
The Tax and Customs Board plans to close its regional processing centers and get rid of 160 positions if a draft amendment to the Taxation Act is passed.
A quarter of the positions are currently unfilled, according to the memorandum attached to the bill, which would mean layoffs for 120 personnel.
The bill states that the abolishment of the regional centers would mean that appeals of tax judgments would no longer be processed by region, but on a case-by-case basis.
There will continue to be service outlets in larger cities and towns in the counties, but the regional centers in Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu and Jõhvi will be closed.
The headquarters will remain in Tallinn but competence centers will continue to operate in the other three cities.
