Prime Minister addresses Estonians abroad
Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas (Reform) addressed Estonians around the world yesterday, saying that it was very important that people abroad maintained their strong ties with Estonia.
"Estonian people across the world, the feeling when you meet someone of your own far away from home is always very delightful. Everywhere you live, there is a tiny piece of Estonia. Every one of you is making Estonia bigger.
Therefore, I will not say that you should necessarily and immediately return to Estonia. Every one of you is important to Estonia exactly in the place you want to be – even if your career or life choices have taken you away from Estonia.
Many of you have become top-level players in the world and have achieved what cannot be achieved when only living in one country. Each of your successes is a success for our country.
For us it is very important that you maintain strong ties with Estonia. That you can be proud of your home country; that your children speak Estonian and maintain contact, and stay close to their grandparents.
As I said, homecoming is your personal choice. What is more important is that you hold Estonia in your hearts and want Estonia to be an open, tolerant, developing and creative country. This is where we need your help.
You know how to live in a different environment. You probably also know that there is no need to be afraid of everything that is new and unfamiliar.
I urge you to share your experiences with us, starting from the people closest to you. This way you can contribute to making Estonia an open and rapidly developing country.
I would like to congratulate all Estonians and friends of Estonia across the world on the occasion of the Independence Day. Long live Estonia!"
