Pirate Hunters' Charges Finally Unveiled (1)
The 14 Estonian seamen who have been held in custody in India for three months have now heard the official charges against them, which include illegal refueling, the illegal bearing of firearms and entering Indian territorial waters without permission.
The charges, which were made on December 30, were announced on Friday. A spokesman for the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Postimees that day that the ministry had not yet been able to examine them in detail.
The men were granted bail at the end of December, but their release was postponed, and the decision to grant them bail was overruled last week.
The men were part of a 35-strong crew of the Seaman Guard Ohio, which was apprehended on October 12 near the southern tip of India, allegedly having entered territorial waters illegally bearing weapons.
