Center Party Contemplating Vote Against Aaviksoo
Just a few days after IRL and the Reform Party failed with a no-confidence vote against Tallinn Deputy Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart over education funding, Kõlvart's party said it could reply with a similar move against IRL's Education Minister Jaak Aaviksoo.
Center Party MP and former Education Minister Mailis Reps said in a press release on Saturday the situation in the nation's education circles is tense, and the problems over teachers' salaries, special education programs and the planned closure of a number of schools has destroyed trust towards Aaviksoo.
She said if the minister will continue with his planned shutdown all municipal secondary schools in towns, then the Center Party will weight a no-confidence vote in Parliament.
The Social Democrats have also voiced their disapproval of Aaviksoo, saying confusion over what teachers will be paid this year has caused tensions to flare.
