Kross Will Not Challenge Reinsalu for IRL Top Spot
Eerik-Niiles Kross, who led IRL's assault on Tallinn at the local elections, has said he will not put his name forward for the chairman position at the party's congress at the beginning of February.
“I think the current head of IRL has done very well and I see no reason to change the chairman. On the contrary, the climate has been very positive lately,” Kross told ETV on Wednesday.
The party's current chairman, Minister of Defense Urmas Reinsalu, who took the reins from Mart Laar in 2012, has already said he will run again for the position.
IRL Deputy Chairman Margus Tsahkna said that possible candidates are currently busy gathering support from other party members.
The party will elect a chairman, deputy chairman and the board on February 8, after which the leadership will begin drawing up the program and list of candidates for next year's Parliamentary elections.
