Hololei to Be Appointed Deputy Secretary General of EC
Henrik Hololei, head of cabinet for European Commissioner Siim Kallas, will be appointed as one of three deputies to the secretary general of the European Commission.
Hololei will continue working in the Kallas office until November 16.
"I was positively surprised after President José Manuel Barroso made me such an unexpected offer. Having worked over nine years as head of cabinet for Kallas, I’m sorry to leave my current position before Kallas’s mandate ends, yet the coming months provide me an opportunity to complete the work currently in progress," Hololei was quoted as saying in a press release today.
The secretary general's deputies are primarily responsible for EC relations with the Council of the European Union, the European Parliament and EU member states. Deputies also take part in the EC president's delegation in important summits.
The EC's secretary general is Catherine Day and her office has a total staff of 600.
