Independence Day on ERR
The first festive event of the 98th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia is the hoisting of the Estonian flag at sunrise on Toompea’s Pikk Hermann tower. ETV will broadcast the event live starting 7:30 Wednesday morning.
The day continues with a laying of wreaths at the Victory Column on Freedom Square at 9 a.m. and an ecumenical church service in St Mary’s Cathedral on Toompea at 10 a.m. The live broadcast of both events starts at 8:55 a.m.
Coverage of the parade in Freedom Square starts at 11:55 a.m. At 16:15 p.m. ETV will broadcast a summary of the President's merit awards ceremony that preceded Independence Day and where 99 citizens as well as friends of Estonia were decorated for their special services to the country.
At 5:30 p.m. ETV will begin its live broadcast of the concert in Estonia Concert Hall, which will include President Toomas Hendrik Ilves’ last Independence Day address. After the concert, it will continue with the presidential reception of the invited guests.
