Ansip to Decide Switch Date, Says Kallas
EU Commissioner Siim Kallas, who recently announced his ambition to succeed PM Andrus Ansip, said that it is the Prime Minister's decision when he will step down as the head of the party.
Speaking on ETV on Friday, Kallas said that he is not a shoe-in for the job, as he has strong candidates who could run against him, such as Foreign Minister Urmas Paet and his own daughter, MP Kaja Kallas.
He said that the party's candidate for the prime minister spot should be given a year to lead the party before parliamentary elections, so that the person can prepare the program and would already have something to show.
The next parliamentary elections take place on March 1, 2015.
Journalist Priit Hõbemägi told Postimees on Saturday that the potential Kallas-Ansip switch is likely to have President Toomas Hendrik Ilves's blessing, and the two told Ilves of the move beforehand.
