Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas said Estonia must continue on its current economic path to catch up with Scandinavia, adding that Estonia must do the same things, but better.

“We must not make direction-changing conclusions from short-term signs. We look into the rear-view mirror and see that growth was not sufficient in the third quarter and now we say that we should do everything differently. We must do more of the same, not something else, and we must do it better,” Rõivas said in an interview to Eesti Päevaleht.

Speaking about the migrant crisis and its impact on Estonia, Rõivas said he is worried that there is much hatred in some people in Estonia, adding that there is a small minority which is very vocal on the subject.

On the Cohabitation Act, which was passed a year ago, and the implementing act, which is currently in Parliament under debate, Rõivas said he wants to see common sense prevail in Parliament, adding that Parliament should pass the implementing act so as not to open old wounds from 2014 when the Cohabitation Act was debated.

The Cohabitation Act gives same-sex couples more rights and the implementing act clear up a number of legal holes in the initial act.

Rõivas said he is not sure the implementing act will gather the support of 51 MPs needed to pass it, saying that much depends on the Free Party as IRL has a different opinion on the acts, the Center Party's board decided against the implementing act and EKRE has been against from the off.
