Average teacher salary crosses €1,100 mark
The average monthly salary of teachers of municipal schools climbed above €1,100 for the first time in November 2015, Spokespeople for Ministry of Education and Research said.
The average salary of a full-time teacher working in a municipal school was 1,111 euros in November last year, as municipalities’ accounts show. This is 9.8% more than in November the previous year.
Teachers got paid more than €1,100 a month in 66 municipalities, and almost three in four municipalities paid them more than €1,000 a month on average. 62% of municipalities used their own budgets to top up the teachers’ salaries in addition to the money the government provided.

Minister of Education and Research Jürgen Ligi said the goal was to raise teachers’ pay to a level equaling 120% of the national average salary by 2019.
Estonia has a national minimum salary for teachers. The smallest amount schools can pay to a full-time teacher per month was €900 euros in 2015 and is €958 this year.
