Pussy Riot Recognizes Ilves for His Support
The two members of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot visiting Estonia praised Estonian president Toomas Hendrik Ilves for being among the first to voice his support for them.
“It is important for us to know that somewhere next to Russia, there is a country, where the president speaks out in our defense,” Nadezhda Tolokonnikova said at a press conference today, rus.err.ee reported.
“I feel proud that he had the courage to be among the first to make a statement, before a statement by Madonna, for example,” she added.
She also complimented Ilves for ending his opening speech at Tallinn Music Week with the word 'freedom'.
Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina are in Tallinn to attend a panel discussion during TMW. On Thursday, Alyokhina gave an interview to ETV.
They will not be performing.
