Rõivas and FM in Kyiv ahead of summit in Kazakhstan
Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas and Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus have traveled to Kyiv and will meet both PM Arseniy Yatsenyuk and President Petro Poroshenko.
A meeting of Ukrainian, Russian, German and French foreign minister failed to break a deadlock over the weekend and hopes are geared towards a new meeting later in the week in Astana, Kazakhstan. That meeting will also be attended by heads of state.
Ukraine and Western nations, including Estonia, are waiting for Russia to make good on the promises of the Minsk Protocol, an agreement signed at the beginning of September that led to a ceasefire, albeit an uneasy one.
Rõivas is traveling to Kyiv from Georgia, where he met its leaders. Rõivas was accompanied by a sizeable business delegation. Meeting with Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Rõivas said Estonia backs Georgia's territorial integrity and can help the nation in talks with the EU on joining the union.
