Tõnis Mägi Calls for Boycott of Haapsalu Blues Festival (4)
One of Estonia's best-known singers, Tõnis Mägi, has called for a boycott of the Haapsalu Blues Festival, which unveiled pro-Kremlin Steven Seagal as a performer.
Mägi told ERR today that he does not understand or support the decision to invite Seagal to perform. Seagal, 62, is better known for his action movies, but has been involved in music since the age of 12.
Seagal is a supporter of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his policies, having labeled the annexation of Crimea as “very reasonable.”
Mägi said many people will avoid the festival, held in Haapsalu at the beginning of August, or will turn up to protest.
Indrek Ditmann, the head organizer of the blues festival, told ERR today that Seagal is there to play music and politics has nothing to do with it.
